Interest Rate Risk and Investment Strategies for 2010

Financial regulators began 2010 with a simple message: rates are at record lows, and you need to understand your Interest Rate Risk so changes can be made before it’s too late. The FFIEC released an advisory in January entitled “Interest Rate Risk: A Regulatory Priority for 2010.”  This document emphasized the importance of sound risk management systems and served as a warning that banks with excessive IRR may have to increase capital, mitigate risk, or both. This seminar will focus on what bankers need to do now to prepare for the next rate cycle including specific investment strategies that can be employed to improve margin and mitigate unnecessary IRR before it’s too late. Bank managers should come away with sound ideas for using the bond portfolio as a tool to manage liquidity, cash flows, and interest rate risk. Attendees will gain insight into the current market environment and the remarkable changes that the banking industry continues to experience.
